From the moment you first make contact with the Vein & Laser Centre you will know you have made the right choice. Our friendly reception staff will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have regarding the best way to make an appointment with our clinic.
After making an appointment, we will post you information regarding what to expect at your first visit, a medical questionnaire to fill out and bring with you at that appointment, and also an information booklet explaining the types of services we offer.
At the initial consultation Dr Jacqui Chirgwin will make an assessment of your vein problem. This includes a full history and examination as well as a short Doppler examination if required.
Photos
Photos will also be taken to record the vein problems prior to any treatment and a copy will be supplied to you. This allows patients to see their legs “as other people see them”. It also allows you to see the veins on the back of your legs more clearly. These photos give you and Dr Chirgwin a reference point to judge the success of any treatments performed.
Letter to Your GP
If appropriate, a letter detailing the consultation and any planned investigations or treatment will be sent to your referring doctor.
Ultrasound Scan
Further investigation with a Duplex Scan may be necessary to give more information on the underlying veins. A Duplex Scan is an Ultrasound Scan performed by a highly trained Vascular Sonographer, which takes approximately half hour per leg examined.
Patients may have had ultrasound scans before but in some cases we may need to repeat the scan to obtain the detailed information needed for your treatment. Usually, this “venous mapping” test cannot be performed on the same day as the initial consult, but it is necessary prior to undergoing most forms of treatment. However, every effort is also made to accommodate those who may be travelling long distances to attend the clinic.
Other Medical Problems
Patients with a history of clots in themselves or close family members may also require blood tests, which can delay the onset of treatment. Patients with arterial disease may also need extra ultrasound studies to assess the arteries in their legs.
Discussion Regarding Treatment
Dr Chirgwin will then discuss the nature of your particular vein problem and explain any relevant treatment options if required. You will also be provided with an outline of any treatments you wish to undergo, along with their cost.
Parking
There is usually ample parking available throughout the Junction shopping areas or in the surrounding streets. The entrance to the Coles car park is along Kenrick Street. Parking near the entrance allows you to walk back up the ramp and along Kenrick Street to the Vein & Laser Centre which is around the corner to the left on Glebe Rd. As walking is required after most treatments, parking up to 10 minutes walk away from the Centre is reasonable prior to actual treatment sessions.
As considerable time is allocated for the initial assessment, we will confirm your appointment 24 hours in advance. Please ensure your appointment has been confirmed. Should you wish to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please contact the office as soon as possible.
